Meet Janelle

Hi, I’m Janelle – the Founder of La Alma Skincare and a devoted skin alchemist, combining natural ingredients with lived experience to support radiant skin.
La Alma means “The Soul” in Spanish — a name that reflects the deeper intention behind everything I create.
My journey into low-tox living began in 2018, when I developed melasma. I didn’t feel supported in my search for the why. Every explanation pointed to hormones, especially those linked to pregnancy or postpartum changes. But I hadn’t had a baby and that left me questioning how my body processed hormones and whether something was wrong with me. Was my baseline being measured against that of an expectant mother?
The comparison felt really disheartening.

Meet the Founder | Janelle’s Story

My journey into skincare didn’t begin in a lab or a business plan — it began with my own skin, and the frustration of not being heard and the shame of being seen.

In 2018, I developed melasma — unexpected, stubborn patches of pigmentation that seemed to appear overnight. The only solutions I was offered were harsh: chemical peels, bleaching agents, and invasive treatments that promised results but ignored the root cause. None of it felt right. My body was asking for care, not correction.

Already living a holistic lifestyle, I trusted my intuition — and turned inward instead of opting for another quick fix. I began learning. Listening. Healing. I explored the deeper causes of skin imbalance, and slowly, I found comfort and clarity through nature — not just internally, but on my skin.

Over time, I discovered the incredible potential of plant oils, infusions, and botanicals — ingredients that worked with my skin, not against it. I grew tired of using multiple products, always reading labels and questioning quality.

So, in 2023, having successfully healed my Melasma, I started making my own oils and balms I could trust, use daily, and feel proud of. Simple. Effective. Honest and truly authentically me.

Were they the sole reason my skin healed? No — healing is never one-dimensional. You can read more of that here But creating these blends was part of the process. A big part. And it awakened something in me I didn’t expect: a desire to share.

This isn’t just about skincare. It’s about self-respect, intuition, and finding beauty in the slow, intentional path. If you’re here, maybe you’re on that path too. And I’m so glad we’ve crossed.

MELASMA

My Journey to Healing Naturally

I didn’t set out to create a skincare brand — I set out to heal.
In 2018, I developed melasma: deep, patchy pigmentation that appeared suddenly and shifted the way I saw myself. The most common advice?
Harsh chemical peels, prescription creams, and invasive treatments that came with risk — and no real answers.
I’d already been living a holistic lifestyle, so I trusted my gut. Instead of stripping away my skin, I started listening to what it was trying to say.
